Night View from the Mary Whalen

Actually ended up being a lovely night for shovelling snow on a nice old retired tanker (HQ of PortSide NY). And what a view!

Spectacular picture!

My sister (a resident of Brooklyn) claims she has 3 feet of snow on her terrace. Judging from your picture, it seems like I'm not the only one in the family prone to exaggeration.

That's a winner.

Dear Ol' Philosophizer,
Hardly exaggerating. We have an admiral 4' burm of snow along the pier here... I invite you to join the shovel team next time.

Beautiful and a little sinister at the same time...
No boats, no people. Only a spidery 'transformer' waiting to go to work

What is that green reflection over the water? Is there a port light behind you?

Thanks for the invitation, Carolina, but that sounds like work to me ... and work is something I gave up several years ago. This was an unusual storm, almost like a donut storm. While everyone to the south, east, north and west of us got hammered, we were in the hole, and only saw 2 or 3 inches of snow (plus 3 or 4 inches of rain).

However, had we received all that snow, the Malden Yacht Club has a different way of dealing with it. We pile it up to make an Olympic style, super downhill, freestyle kayak launching venue (I hope this You-Tube link works)

Here's my friend John "Control Geek" Huntington's time-lapse video, in Brooklyn:

Oh, and Jos, I think the green light is just the reflection from the lighted top of the building that lines up with the streak.
