In her opinion piece in today's NY Times, Maureen Dowd totally loses me at the second paragraph: "Military guys are rarely as smart as they think they are, and they’ve never gotten over the fact that civilians run the military." Don't they say anything in J-school about not making idiotically insulting overgeneralizations unless you happen to be working for a tabloid that specializes in such BS?
Not that what the general did wasn't pretty dumb. But two wrongs don't make a right, and two stupids don't make a smart.

Folks who resort to insulting other people as a method of debate usually have insecurities to hide.

Good one. Generally I think generalizations (about generals or anyone else) go over better when the generalizer leaves loopholes ("generally" is a good one) to allow for exceptions.
I think the previous administration taught us that two stupids don't make a smart.

Ah, but the harm done by two stupids can really smart! Ouch!
Of course, people can be very clever (akin to a powerful engine) without the requisite wisdom (akin to steering and brakes) to stay out of trouble.
