Remember "ice"?

And not just the meek, domestic variety you'll find confined to a cooler or clinking in a glass, tamely keeping your refreshing beverages refreshing, but the wild spontaneous kind, running untrammelled and free across the wide-open spaces?

OK, actually I'm not THAT enthusiastic about winter and ice and all that. But I have no air conditioning, just a window fan, and I'm kind of having fun sitting in my steamy apartment looking at stuff from the winter's adventures. That day of iceboating was one of last winter's high points.

Bonnie: Buy a frickin window unit. No excuse. Don't suffer when you don't have to. I'm sure PC Richard can help. Hey, can you bring me back some Cara-macs when you come home from your Hawaii trip? My wife would really appreciate it!!! BTW, I bought Spam Lite while we vacationed on the Outer Banks. I thought it would be a reasonable substitution. I had it with fried eggs several mornings, but it left me wanting, I dunno, more grease?

Nah, I actually don't mind hot weather so much, and my apartment's got trees around it so it's shaded from the sun & stays reasonable most of the time - it's only a few days a year, like the ones we had this week (and it was a lot cooler in Brooklyn today, yay!) where I'd use it. Just not worth the bother. I'm on the young side of middle-aged & healthy, don't mind a few nights of being too hot.

It's actually cold weather I don't handle so well. I put on the gear & go out & have fun but it's always such a temptation to stay home all snug & warm.

Spam lite is an oxymoron!

It's probably not going to cheer you up one bit to learn that we spent July 4th huddled below with coffee to stay warm and watched the fireworks at the end of the fishing pier through our portlights.

Kids on neighboring boats were on deck in parkas and wool caps. One of my more surreal Independence Days.

Our weather is all antipodal here.
