Hempstead Bay Houses

A World Within A World: The Bay Houses of Long Island from Greg Blank on Vimeo.

I've done a couple of paddles with Sebago in Hempstead Bay, and I've thought it must be like a dream to be able to spend summer months in these bay houses. Tugster Will shared this on Facebook today - it's not very long but it makes it sound like it's just as I pictured.

Oh my goodness, Will, is that something a person can do? Please send info if it is! The one thing about the video is that is still left me really wanted to see the interiors!

One of my aunts and uncles, who (when I was elementary school age) were living in Brooklyn, had a summer home in Copiague, out in Suffolk County. They didn't have a bay house but their house was on a canal and they had an old boat moored on a dock in their back yard. Nothing fancy. They took my Dad and I out on the boat when we visited. I loved to visit and the ride on the Long Island Railroad to get out there. Eventually they moved from Brooklyn and the house in Copiague became their primary home. I can't spent much time with the video right now but I hope to spend more time with it another time.
