Cyclone!
Gah, usual September craziness at work. How about some Cyclone pictures? World famous, Coney Island, etc., etc. Click for better view.
Thanks! I'm actually scared to death of rollercoasters - I think I was put on one when I was too little or something. I rode the Cyclone once just so I could say that I had (and OK, after about the 2nd drop it had slowed down enough that I had fun, if they could just drop me on there I would ride the Cyclone all the time, first one's a doozy though), but when Waqar was setting up his visit with his friends here and said something about going to Coney Island, I said I would love to meet him out there - but I explained that I am not a scary-rides kinda gal! He was fine with that, he was more about taking pictures, which is exactly what I love to do in Coney Island, so that was all fine.
I loved the faces I caught here. There's actually another coaster called the Thunderbolt that I want to go try taking pictures of again, it's a new one and the first drop is vertical and then there's a big loop that takes the riders upside down. We stopped to take pictures there later in the day and the light was such that although I more or less got the shots I was after, you couldn't make out the expressions. I'm thinking earlier in the day I might have better luck.
I was on there once in my life. Never, ever ever again. But I have a relative in New Mexico who is in absolute love with Coney Island and I am tagging this for her!
I rode it a few times, both times before they said it was closing for good, just so I could say I rode it. There is a similar one called the Comet, built in the 20s that was originally in Crystal Beach, Ontario and was later moved to Lake George, NY. I rode that one in Crystal Beach just before it closed and was surprised to find it in Lake George when I went there with my daughter's Girl Scout troop. I rode it again just to say I rode the same roller coaster in two different countries.
Thanks! There will be more Coney Island pix, I just haven't had a chance to sort through 'em yet. I actually seem to be at a point at work where I might be able to take a breather tonight before launching into September duties Part 2, so maybe tonight!
What a good story about the wandering coaster. Seems like the Cyclone is safe now, it's been named an NYC landmark and a US historic place, so as long as another Sandy down the road doesn't decide otherwise, we'll have that coaster for a while, for riding for those who like and for picturetaking for us chickens. Brawk brawk.
