The Mane Event (oooh...sorry, I just HAD to!)
Sorry about the pun, I'm just in too cheerful a mood right now resist. I'm lined up to meet one of my major staycation goals. 10 am Friday, I donate the mane. Hope it's not too weatherbeaten to be of use.
Wow - Frogma without the long hair? How much is coming off? I did the same thing a few years ago - let it grow and grow, and then hacked it all off. It felt AWESOME!
Well, I am hoping there's enough that I can keep enough for a ponytail, because that's really the easiest thing to do with it and keeps it off of my face.
I did actually wear it in a short bob for a while in my 20's, but it never looked quite right except when I'd just had it cut & styled and I eventually just lost patience with spending fifteen minutes every morning messing around with a blowdryer, a brush, and whatever sort of goop the salon had talked me into this time, and getting indifferent results. It's funny, you'd think short hair would be easier, and it probably is for some people, but I just never was able to get it to behave without resorting to some sort of restraining device.
I am looking forward to the cut, though - it's WAY past the point where I usually start wanting to get my normal cut (just below the shoulders, usually), and it's actually getting to the point of being annoying. There've been a couple of times recently when I found myself passing a local salon at a moment when I wasn't hurrying anywhere & I was SO tempted to just go in & make an appointment on the spot, but I'd been thinking about donating since back in February, when I talked to a friend who'd done it & had a salon & program she recommended highly and both times, I managed to resist.
I thought about donating my hair, but its got too much grey in it and they can't use it. so its still long. I only really will get it cut if we have a longish spell of hot weather as it really annoys me when its hot. its not even been trimmed for two years... thats how hot our weather is then....
I'm beginning to suspect that he's secretly Canadian. I used to work for a Canadian who specialized in just that kind of stealth humor - he'd say something that sounded perfectly straight & I would go back to my desk and 5 minutes later I'd bust out laughing when the second meaning of whatever it was he'd said finally hit me. He always looked very pleased with himself at that point.

Looks like it was really honkin!
Highest windspeeds ever recorded in a Brooklyn apartment!

I can't think of any comment better than O'Docker's line on trimming the mane ;)

PS - Claire, ordinarily my haircut timetable is the same as yours - i.e., it only happens when it gets annoying!
