The True Story Of "Lucille"
Getting in the mood for Purple Yam's onolicious Hawaiian feast tonight with an Island classic. This was a big hit on the radio when I was in junior high, and tells the true story behind the song known on the Mainland as "You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Lucille".
Wow, laulau! I have an autographed cassette that has this song on it. Great stuffs. He used to visit schools to promote cross-cultural understanding and tolerance when my daughters were young.
I wonder how his comedy goes down on the mainland - not only a language barrier, but also politically incorrect (ironically a secret to the success of Hawaii's multicultural society - the ability to laugh at ourselves).
I had actually been searching for this - I didn't remember it was Frank DeLima (I should have guessed) so that made it kind of hard. I was so excited when my friend Brian sent me the link on Facebook.
