Things We Liked At the Philadelphia Flower Show - Part 1: Orchids!
TA DAAAAA! Let The Flowers BEGIN!
And because this magnificent display was the first thing that caught OUR eyes when we first came in, I thought I'd start my proper flower show posts with orchids, too.
BTW, I would say that with flowers this pretty this is a post where you might want to take advantage of the Blogger slideshow. Click on the first picture & you'll get a much nicer view!
I don't think I've ever seen such an impressive array outside of the islands. The dark green ones with the red throats with which I led off the post were definitely a color combination I had never seen before - striking!
When my folks were still living in Aiea, they used to have a very nice collection of orchids growing on the lanai. My dad always enjoyed taking pictures of the big white ones blooming in December and January and sending them around to the mainland with cover notes saying things like "In case you were worried about us not having enough white stuff here."
I loved the dark green ones with the red centers that I posted as the first picture

So beautiful. Symbol of perfection. When the Maui County Fair opened each year, I would make a bee line for the orchid displays.

A very nice place, it would be hard to leave the place without buying flowers.
Greetings,
Filip
I managed to resist only because I had a long train & subway trip home.
