How Not To Sail.
Good grief. If you think it's exciting when the sticky-uppy pole-y thing in the middle of the boat is pointed down, you should just buy a Laser in the first place!
My son-in-law works Maui Fire Department Rescue. I have little patience for people who persist in putting other good people in danger just so they can get off on an adrenaline rush. If the rescue people were allowed to leave him to his fate I'd say "go for it", but you know that won't happen. Hopefully he'll kill himself before someone sent to help him gets killed.
I have been vol. fire/rescue for 30 yrs. Feel the same way about motorcycles. If they want to kill themselves, why do I have to go out and scrape them off the road.
Maybe he should look into boats that are supposed to go keel side up once in a while... like kayaks?
NY Times article "rescue dependent" adventurers, including one group that used their rescue beacon 3 times in one trip. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/22/science/earth/22parks.html?_r=1
Don, I made the crack about Lasers before I actually watched the video. Really, a kayak, surfboard, SUP, bodyboard, windsurfer - any of those would be a FAR more appropriate craft for the conditions in that video than a Hobie cat.
Can't seem to get into the Times article, but have read a lot of similar stories. No cure for stupid, is there?
It would be nice to be able to bill people who incur costly rescues because of their own stupidity, or who call for emergency services for something that is not an emergency.
Sometimes I think said, "There but for the grace of God go I." We all have the occasional brain fart. But some people seem to encourage and wallow in brain farts.

I love this guy.
Astounding, isn't he?

I saw this from Wetass and posted the video. Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.

Is what we call at home "stunned-arse", or more money than brains!
Pat's dad used the expression "more dollars than sense." I like the pun.
Pat, despite his penchant for puns, always said "more money than sense."
