Ah...now it hits me that this picture looks much funnier to sea kayakers than anyone else - almost all modern sea kayak designs feature a bulkhead just aft of the seat, so sitting the way Dottie appears to be sitting here is simply not possible.
What you can't see here is that her legs are out of the boat on the far side - it just looks like she's paddling in a position that wouldn't be possible for a person with legs!
She's actually demonstrating a fun exercise; her husband, Walter, took my camera to take pictures during this part - the "Hmmm" link will take you to Flickr, where you can see the rest of us having fun with this.
