Plane Zones
Plane zone, Saturday:
Plane zone, Sunday:
Noon to two,
woo hoo hoo!
Holly the Sailing Co-Chair's post-sail comment - "Anyone who didn't plane today is doing something wrong".
John F. Kennedy International being a shoreline feature of Jamaica Bay, we're pretty much used to the noise. They really caught our attention on Saturday, though - the approach path was going right over the northern shore we were paddling, and they were coming in much lower than usual.

Most be fun to see some planes, the noise is not so interesting.

Were you ever there for a Concorde take off?
No, missed those - they stopped flying in '03 and I moved out to Jamaica Bay in '06. Must have been kind of cool seeing those go over.
Was the wind blowing opposite to the way it usually does?
If so, this Washington Post article about DC's Gravelly Point might explain why the planes were lower than normal.
Excellent photo of the plane!
Wish I could've taken pictures of the Sunday plane, too, but I kinda had my hands full when that was going on!
